
Director Prashanth Neel‘s KGF series redefined the portrayal of heroism in cinema, setting a new benchmark. It took the Indian box office by storm, becoming a massive success and inspiring numerous filmmakers. However, while attempting to replicate its magic, some misunderstood its essence, resulting in flop films. Have a look at some movies inspired by KGF and their outcomes:
1. Ranarangam
Directed by Sudheer Varma and starring Sharwanand, this gangster drama follows the rise of the protagonist from a small-time worker to a powerful gangster. Despite its high budget and KGF-style narrative, the film’s lack of impactful moments led to its failure.
2. Pushpa: The Rise
Sukumar’s Pushpa drew inspiration from KGF, blending it with the essence of his earlier film Rangasthalam. The story of a labour rising to rule resonated with audiences. It turned out to be a massive success, and Pushpa 2 is already a big success.
3. Kurup
Starring Dulquer Salmaan, Kurup attempted to tell a real-life story. The movie performed decently and was appreciated for its execution.
4. Michael
Featuring Sundeep Kishan and directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi, Michael followed a KGF-inspired template with a similar character arc for the protagonist. However, the film failed to connect with the audience, despite having Vijay Sethupathi in a key role.
5. Kabzaa
This multi-starrer featuring Upendra, Sudeep, and Shiva Rajkumar was heavily influenced by KGF. Directed by R. Chandru, the film ended up as a massive disaster.
6. King of Kotha
Directed by Abhilash Joshi and starring Dulquer Salmaan, this Malayalam film had a KGF-style storyline and characterizations. Despite high expectations, the movie was a box-office failure.
7. Tiger Nageswara Rao
