Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his home and thankfully, he is out of danger and recovering well. After 70 hours of investigation, the attacker was identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad.
The Bandra court has placed him in police custody. Today, Mumbai police will recreate the crime scene at Saif Ali Khan’s residence with Shahzad.
Shahzad, a Bangladeshi citizen staying illegally in India, was difficult to catch. The police reviewed thousands of CCTV cameras and received a tip about him near a shop in Worli. Using UPI payment records, they tracked him down.
Shahzad had no Indian identification documents and admitted during questioning that he entered India illegally. He also claimed he didn’t know he had attacked a Bollywood actor until he saw the news on TV.
After realizing his crime, Shahzad hid in a labor camp in Thane district, where he was eventually arrested. Shahzad had been out of work for months and decided to rob a house to survive. He had been living in a rented apartment in Worli with friends and previously worked for a housekeeping agency.
