Kobali Review
Kobali Movie Story: Srinu (Ravi Prakash) lives a peaceful life in the village, minding his own business and not getting into fights. But, when his younger brother Ramu (Tarun Rohith) accidentally picks a fight with the local rowdy Ramana (Rocky Singh), things take a dangerous turn.
A small argument puts Srinu’s entire family in a life-threatening situation. The series revolves around the battle between Ramana and Srinu. Who suffers more in this fight? What’s the root cause of the conflict? How does Srinu protect his family? These are the reasons to watch the film.
Performances: In his 25-year career, Ravi Prakash may not be a household name, but his face is instantly recognizable to anyone. With over 200 films in character roles, he has built a strong brand image. In this one series, Ravi Prakash has received more elevation shots than ever in his career, showcasing impressive fight scenes, dialogues, and shots.
Tarun Rohit delivered a strong performance as Seenu’s younger brother Ramu, skillfully balancing emotions like kindness, innocence, and anger.
Shyamala, playing an average woman, made an effort to impress, but her character didn’t have enough impactful scenes to shine. As the villain, Rocky Singh portrayed a ruthless cruelty with intensity. Bharath Reddy impressed in a role with different shades. Overall, all the actors did justice to their respective roles.
Technical Aspects: Apart from Hari Gowra’s music and Rohit Bachu’s cinematography, there aren’t many positive points to highlight about the “Kobali” series.
Director Revanth Levaka ‘s decision to stretch a small story into a series seems to be a major drawback. Additionally, the lack of engaging elements in the narrative is another minus. The unnecessary use of vulgar language and excessive violence is something only the makers can explain. While everyone aspires to make a series like “Mirzapur,” it didn’t succeed just because of the profanity or explicit scenes.
The storytelling also played a crucial role. Unfortunately, the director seems to have neglected that aspect. Despite having a good star cast, decent production design, and notable technical qualities, “Kobali” failed to make any impact. This series can be considered a failure for the director.
Analysis: Some people see the OTT space as just a platform for violence, excessive profanity, and explicit sexual content. However, it’s important to realize quickly that people aren’t watching OTT series or movies solely for sexual scenes or vulgarity. If not, we might end up with more series like “Kobali” without even realizing it.
Luckily, this series doesn’t have explicit sexual content, but it is filled with plenty of profanity and graphic violence, making it unsuitable for families. Moreover, the lack of interesting elements means that regular viewers would struggle to finish this series. It raises the question of why platforms like Hotstar are wasting their budget on such content when they could invest in series without these elements.
Verdict: “Kobali” is that it falls short in many aspects. Despite having a solid star cast and decent production values, the series struggles with an unengaging narrative, unnecessary violence, and profanity. While it doesn’t rely on explicit sexual content, its overuse of vulgar language and graphic scenes makes it unsuitable for family viewing. The lack of compelling story elements leaves regular viewers uninterested, and the series ultimately fails to make an impact. Overall, it can be considered a missed opportunity, and a failure for the director.
Bottom Line: Forgettable OTT attempt.
