Ram Gopal Varma has stirred controversy with his comments about Rajinikanth. In an interview RGV said, “Acting is about a character, while being a star is about performance. There’s a big difference between the two. Is Rajinikanth a good actor? I don’t know. I don’t think he can play a role like Bhikhu Mhatre (Manoj Bajpayee’s character in Satya)”.
He further added, “People want to see Rajinikanth in a certain way. Without slow motion, I don’t know if he would have the same impact. Fans enjoy watching him walk in slow motion for half the film, even if he does nothing”.
“This excitement comes from his star power, not necessarily from the depth of his characters. When a star plays an ordinary role, it can be disappointing”.
Rajini fans didn’t take these comments lightly and started trolling RGV. They pointed out that he seems to have forgotten Rajinikanth’s iconic performances in films like Thalapathi, Padaiyappa, and Enthiran.
On the work front Varma’s next film Syndicate revolves around a dangerous organization that poses a threat to India.
