In a recent interview Prasanna Kumar spoke about the differences between Telugu and Malayalam films.
He mentioned that Telugu films need a strong storyline but whereas Malayalam films are made with simple plots but still manage to be impactful.
According to him, a Malayalam film’s entire story is sometimes equivalent to just the introduction scene of a Telugu film.
He explained that Telugu audiences expect more content in a film, and without enough substance, they lose interest.
On the other hand, Malayalam films keep it simple but still succeed with their storytelling. He also pointed out that many incidents shown in Telugu films are actually full-length stories in Malayalam cinema.
Interestingly, he added that while Telugu audiences often say they want Malayalam-style films, when such films are made in Telugu, they don’t perform well at the box office.
