
Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao directed the film Laapataa Ladies. It became one of the most watched movies on Netflix even beating big Bollywood films like Animal.
However the film is now facing plagiarism accusations. Some people claim it copied a 2019 Arabic movie called Burqa City. A clip from Burqa City went viral, sparking a debate on social media.
Many people started asking Kiran Rao if Laapataa Ladies was inspired by Burqa City. The film was India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars.
It was released in theatres on March 1st 2024, but didn’t perform well. However it became a huge success on Netflix.
The movie stars Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan. It was produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions.
