The trailer for Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde’s Deva has increased the excitement around the film among fans. While the actor is no stranger to playing complex characters, he considers playing a cop in the movie one of the challenging roles in his career.
Speaking at the trailer launch event in Mumbai, Shahid shared his experience of playing Dev Ambre and how it is close to his heart. He said, “This is the most complex character I’ve played having said that, I’ve played a few. But if there’s any character that has challenged me yet again, to ask myself whether I’m capable of doing this or not, then that is Deva. Roshan created this character and we both developed this year for a year and then shot for it.”
Describing his personal connection with the film, the 43-year-old actor revealed, “Deva is a piece of my heart. For many years, people were telling me to do a massy film, something that resonates with the masses. For me, this is the next step in my journey. It’s been one of the most challenging films of my career. There’s so much in Dev’s character that I don’t want to reveal just yet—you’ll have to watch it on January 31.”
Further, the Jab We Met star stated that he wants to do roles that help him grow as an artist. He then added, “I got an opportunity as an actor to do something that would make me happy. There’s an overwhelming personality that Deva has, which gives him that charisma and star quality, so it needed to be a combination of both those elements.”
About Deva, the movie is directed by noted Malayalam director Rosshan Andrrews, known for films like Salute and Kayamkulam Kochunni. The film also stars Pavail Gulati, Pravessh Rana, and Kubbra Sait in key roles.
