Jyothika recently returned to Bollywood with ‘Srikanth’ and is now set to star in ‘Dabba Cartel,’ a series about five women unexpectedly caught up in a drug cartel. She plays a housewife who gave up her career for family, similar to her real-life break after marrying Suriya in 2006.
In an interview, Jyothika spoke about facing gender bias in the industry, often being seen as just Suriya’s wife.
She shared how her achievements are overlooked, while Suriya’s appreciation for her gets more attention. She even mentioned simple things like buying a car, where people assume someone else should check its features.
Despite these challenges, Jyothika shaped her career with independent choices. She and Suriya, who met on the sets of Poovellam Kettuppar, moved back to Mumbai post-pandemic to support her career and balance family life.
Dabba Cartel, also featuring Shabana Azmi, Nimisha Sajayan, Sai Tamhankar, Shalini Pandey, and Anjali Anand, will premiere on Netflix on February 28th.
