The film Kudumbasthan, directed by Rajeswar Kalisamy from the Nakkalites YouTube channel, features actors like Manikandan, Guru Somasundaram, R. Sundararajan, and Balaji Sakthivel.
The movie humorously explores Manikandan’s challenges as he enters married life and takes on family responsibilities. The film has been well-received, and a success celebration was held on January 31.
At the event, one of the writers, Prasanna Balachandran, shared his journey in cinema and with YouTube. He thanked the viewers, saying, “Nakkalites YouTube channel gave us a livelihood, thanks to the support from Tamil Nadu and Tamil audiences worldwide”.
He recalled how their first video had a small budget of Rs. 250, just enough for fuel and tea, and for a year, none of the team members were paid.
Prasanna talked about the struggles of transitioning into cinema and explained that their real training came from creating YouTube content.
He urged people not to separate YouTube and cinema, explaining that while YouTube creators are under pressure to capture audiences in 10 minutes, cinema offers more freedom, even if a film doesn’t meet expectations. He encouraged recognition for YouTubers, urging people not to underestimate their hard work and dreams.
