The Income Tax Department opened a Taxpayer’s Center in Madurai at Tamukkam Grounds Conference Hall. The event was led by H.P.S. Gill, a senior official from the Central Board of Direct Taxes in New Delhi with Chief Commissioner Sanjay Rai and Principal Commissioner D. Vasanthan also attending.
Actor Vijay Sethupathi was the special guest. He shared that he had worked with a chartered accountant for six months after his studies.
He praised the department for making tax procedures easier through their website and using cartoons to explain tax details. He also suggested adding Tamil as a language option for PAN card applications, which currently supports only Hindi and English.
He highlighted the importance of paying taxes and compared it to exercising one’s rights. He also suggested introducing benefits for taxpayers who later face financial struggles. He expressed happiness that the event began with the Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu song.
The program included panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and participation from chartered accountants, entrepreneurs, and trade members. Senior officials like Ritu Singh Sharma from New Delhi and Saravanan from Chennai were present. Public Relations Officer S. Balasubramanian coordinated the event.
