Actress Ranya Rao was arrested in a gold smuggling case at Bengaluru airport while returning from Dubai.
Officials seized 14 kg of gold worth Rs. 14.56 crore. Shockingly she had visited Dubai 27 times in a year and used VIP channels to evade checks.
She strapped gold bars to her thighs with tape and bandages. Raids at her home uncovered gold jewelry worth Rs. 2.06 crore and Rs. 2.67 crore in cash.
Investigations revealed she was paid Rs. 1 lakh per kg and earned Rs. 12-13 lakh per trip. A police constable at the airport reportedly helped her bypass security.
Authorities are now probing her links to a larger gold smuggling network.
