Actress Ranya Rao was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru for smuggling gold. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials caught her with 14.8 kg of gold.
She arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight on Monday night and was under watch due to her frequent foreign trips.
Officials found gold bars hidden in her clothes, and she was even wearing gold when taken into custody.
Ranya Rao is the daughter of a senior IPS officer (DGP rank). She often calls local police, saying she is a DGP’s daughter, after landing from her trips.
The DRI is investigating if she is linked to a smuggling gang. She has been taken to the DRI office in Bengaluru and will be presented in court today.
